Shoot the Moon by Jacqueline Grey [Review]

My Review

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. Nothing much has changed with book 2. I still enjoyed my time in this journey. I wasn’t invested in the characters as much.

One thing I really enjoyed was the discovery portion. Adam is confronted with a side of him he never imagined when his BFF brings him to Harte club, and he runs into club owner Jesse. I love seeing self discovery. The back and forth between wanting and trying to come to terms with that want and the shame that society places on us is fascinating. The harsh words and abandonment of Adams parents for being Gay has tremendously troubled his psyche.

I wish that there was more instances of Jesse helping Adam through this. I also do feel like communication on both sides was very minimal. I’d have preferred Jesse taking a firmer approach in understanding Adams hang ups. I don’t remember them even having a real conversation about Adams fears. Simple communication can usually clear a path towards understanding. Especially with Jesse owning a kink club and must understand the beauty of clear communication.

Still the HEA was beautiful. I enjoyed the book and I can’t wait to get my hands on book 3

Are You In? by P.W. Steele (Review)

My Review

I have never read anything by P.W. Steele before, and I enjoyed my time reading this short story. I think it had some editing issues, mostly with both POV’s blending together and causing minor confusion. I also felt the plot was just a tad weak. There wasn’t too much substance to it, which is fine. I don’t need a well established plot. I did like the message of learning to love yourself, perceived flaws and all. I think there could have been much more developed on this. Also the age gap would have been nice to explore.

The characters were great. They definitely complemented each other nicely. I liked Andy, his character development did feel contradictory…but this so real to most people that it was nice to see. He was so confident and then at the next second so self deprecating about his appearance. Not gonna lie, I’m totally jealous that he can eat so shitty and not gain 500 pounds. Andy felt very real. I like the relationship journey, but I don’t think Jack is a strong enough character on his own. I don’t have much of a feeling or connection with him, outside of his relationship with Andy.

I am going to continue with the series. I am interested in seeing something about Michael, and Scotty seems pretty interesting.

P.W. Steele

I’ve been an avid reader since childhood when I would love nothing more than to escape into the enchanting worlds of Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton and Dr. Seuss (amongst many others). Reading was my superpower, and I had the magical ability to transport myself into fantasy worlds at the far reaches of my creativity and imagination.

English isn’t my first language. My parents moved from Eastern Europe to Australia when I was just nine months old (yes: I do have an Aussie accent, no: I do not use the words “g’day” and “mate” in everyday conversation… just occasionally). I actually struggled to read and write at first, but once I overcame that barrier, I became unstoppable. I wrote anything and everything – poetry, short stories, songs, screenplays, you name it.

My stereotypically ridiculous rebellious teen years arrived, and right on cue, I pushed reading and writing out the window. I was more interested in hanging out with friends, getting my first job and importantly: trying to figure out my place and purpose in this crazy, scary, beautiful world. (Side note: twenty years later, I’m still trying to figure it out).

Long-ish story short, I’ve spent my adult years so far doing all sorts of great things. I’m in a wonderful relationship and have a great family. I’ve travelled. I’ve worked hard to get to a good place in my career. But as much as I love my life (and I really genuinely do), there has always been a little voice in the back of my head that said, ‘Write’. Unfortunately, other voices in my head were louder – and meaner. They’d say things like, ‘Why bother?’ or, ‘It’s too late, you’ve missed your chance’ and my personal favorite: ‘You’re probably crap at it anyways.’

But then 2020 showed up and I thought to myself, ‘If not now, then when?’ So here I am. I’m releasing my first gay m/m romance in 2020. It’s my first ever publicly released writing. I’m excited, nervous and scared. I have no idea what to expect. I just need to silence those voices in my head once and for all with the words, ‘At least I gave it a try.’ (And hey, if people love it and enjoy it, then that’s icing on the cake!)

Wish me luck!…

Tricks and Bids by Jacqueline Grey: Review

My Review

M/M Romance is becoming a large part of my reading repertoire. I am glad I have found my way to reading this author. This was my first novel form her, and won’t be my last. In fact, I have an ARC for book two as well.

For an erotic BDSM genre book, I was a bit shocked at how quickly the erotic scenes read. That didn’t detract from the enjoyment, in fact it was nice to see two people not going at it like rabbits while also navigating a new relationship. It felt almost cozy? Not sure if that is the right sentiment but it was pretty much how I felt during their journey. It was very nice.

I felt like the dynamic was real. I could see this happening in a real life setting, and I think that is where the magic happened. There was something so incredibly mature about these two men and their journey to love. It was a breathe of fresh air, honestly.

I loved Mike’s unapologetic attitude for his choice of prostitution. He is a very strong individual who doesn’t NEED to be taken care of, but enjoys it…at least at the hand of Dillon. Dillon, went through a major heartbreak when his long time lover died. I was glad we entered the scene so far from the tragedy that we got minimal angst. Dillon was ready to move on and he found a second love in Mike.

This was a very quick read, and I enjoyed my time immensely. Can’t wait to crick open book 2. I will be keeping my eye out for this author.
