A Lost Girl and A Lonely Boy

DISCLAIMER: If Addie doesn’t make you feel something, you may not have a heart.

“…it is sad, of course, to forget.
But it is a lonely thing, to be forgotten.
To remember when no one else does.”

Adeline LaRue just wants one thing, to live. The devil gets the best of her on her wedding day; a day filled with all of the wrong emotions. She sacrifices her soul to be able to live- just as simple as that. But it’s actually not. Unbeknownst to Addie at the time, there is a little more to it than that. Addie must be forgotten in order to live. No one will remember her. She can live how she wants, but the second she turns away from someone, they will forget she even exsits. The darkness doomed her to be forgotten. Until Henry…. He remembers

“His heart is a draft.
It lets in light.
It lets in storms.
It lets in everything”

I want to start this off by saying that I think I’m in love with Henry. If I was a male, I would be Henry. Everything about him: his feelings, his depression, his love. It’s so deep and I just feel like Henry.

This book is amazing! I am pretty partial to VE Schwab, but I think this book knocks It out of the park. Ten years to write this book and it shows. So artful and poetic. If you haven’t read it yet, you should.
There are times when following Addie’s journey was difficult. The life she had was hard and sometimes brutal- like any life.

Mexican Gothic

1950s gothic novel set in Mexico? Count me in! What’s not to love about this book? At first, I really felt like it was going to be a little debutante-y (is that even a word), but after a few chapters, the real story began.

Noemi receives a frantic letter from her cousin who married some broke-ass English man. Her letter says all of this crazy stuff and Noemi’s father asks her to check in on her. Queue falling apart mansion  with creepy weird uncle… or father….more about that later… Anyway, she goes to this quiet little town and stays in this big mansion with its on cemetery. A lot of creepy stuff happens… and then even more creepy stuff happens… and then you’re like “wait, I thought this was a horror story”. It’s really not…unless you’re afraid of mycology.

I honestly tried very hard to guess what was happening the entire time… I never guess right. It is honestly a terribly good book with an ending that I never saw coming, but in a good way. 10/10 would recommend.

Face Offs & Cheap Shots by Eden Findley and Saxon James {Review}

JACOBS

For the last three years, I’ve lived and breathed hockey with one goal: team captain.
There’s only one thing standing in my way. TJ Beckett.
Beck is irresponsible and immature, and I’ve hated him since the moment we met freshman year.
Yet, the coaches see something in him I obviously can’t, and they refuse to choose between us. The captain spot is going to a team vote, and the team thinks that what we need are a bunch of challenges to prove our worth. Challenges that have nothing to do with hockey. Challenges that are throwing me and Beck together.
And he’s still as infuriating as ever.

BECK

I have no idea why Christopher Jacobs hates me, and I can’t say I care. I like pushing his buttons, but the guy needs to loosen up. I’m going to win these stupid challenges easily and spend my senior year as hockey king on this campus. Tormenting Jacobs at the same time will just be a bonus.
Even if I’m getting confusing feelings toward him, I won’t let it hold me back.
When it comes to competing, I’m all in, and nothing will get between me and the W.

My Review

I received an eARC of this book for free from the authors and Forward PR & Marketing. All opinions are entirely my own.

I loved it. A great follow up to the first book which I had received an ARC of as well (Check out my review for Power Play’s & Straight A’s)

I tried really hard not to compare this book to HIM but it was a struggle at first. I’m going to be honest I was worried for a little bit that it wouldn’t hold up to the shoes of that amazing book. However, I am happy to say that it did not take long to become its own beast! By 10% in I wasn’t even thinking of Wesmie at all. I was hooked and invested in Beck and Jacobs.

I adored these two characters, and I loved their rivalry and journey towards love. The snickering and verbal swipes were legit foreplay into a super steamy relationship that I devoured.

I can’t wait to see what this author duo comes up with next. I’m getting a Seth and Cohen vibe for book 3. One can only beg and plead for it!

5 stars. You need this whole series on your TBR.

Conventionally Yours by Annabeth Albert {Review}

My Review

I received this book for free from Netgalley and the Publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Oh man. What to say about this book, other than it is absolute perfection. I knew I was going to love it, because quite honestly Annabeth Albert is one of my top favorite authors, and love it I did.

Alden and Conrad have one of the most precious slow burns I have ever read. Enemies to lovers only in that they have a whole lot of miscommunication and assumptions about the other. Forced proximity, which is my jam; and a whole lot of fun nerdiness.

I adored how they each came together, but also allowed each other to grow into strong individuals. Each man very much complimenting the other. It was so beautiful, and warm, and I am forever convinced that Albert can do absolutely zero wrong.

The book itself is a whole lot less steamy that I am used to, and really focuses on the individual struggles as well as the budding relationship. If you want to get into M/M romance this is the perfect place to start.

5 stars. Go read it!

Risking The Shot by Amy Aislin {Review}

Synopsis:
Time for distractions? Hardly.
A chance at making the playoffs? It’s a dream for NHL forward Taylor Cunningham that just might come
true. If he can keep his eyes on the ball—ahem, puck. And study for midterms. Dakota Cotton, eleven
years his senior, isn’t just a distraction, though—he’s everything Tay’s ever wanted.
Dakota has no interest in introducing someone who might not stick around to his four-year-old son. Been
there, done that, with the divorce to prove it. But there’s something about Tay that hits all of the right
buttons and has him wanting to take a chance.
As things heat up between them, and the pressure to succeed hits an all-time high, will they risk a shot at
happiness or choke?

My Review

This was my first Amy Aislin book. I kind of wish I had started the series with book one, but as this was an ARC alas a jumped into the middle.

Which, didn’t hinder my enjoyment whatsoever. There are couples in this book that I assume had their own arcs in previous books, but I did not feel that I was missing anything while reading. This is a true standalone within a series.

This was such a cute story. An age gap between two bisexual men. Taylor is a hockey pro in Canada who is also desperately trying to balance an education in paramedicine. He has crushed on Dakota for years and finally gets a chance encounter to make a move.

Dakota is older, divorced and has a four year old son whom he adores. After ending up with Taylor in a coat closet, they start a tentative relationship. Finding in each other the strength to make their dreams come true.

I thought this book was extremely cute. I love watching the two men come together while also finding ways to balance their lives. It felt real, and I enjoyed the journey.

Will definitely read more from this author.

About the Author

Amy’s lived with her head in the clouds since she first picked up a book as a child, and being fluent in two languages means she’s read a lot of books! She first picked up a pen on a rainy day in fourth grade when her class had to stay inside for recess. Tales of treasure hunts with her classmates eventually morphed into love stories between men, and she’s been writing ever since. She writes evenings and weekends—or whenever she isn’t at her full-time day job saving the planet at Canada’s largest environmental non-profit.
